Swan Valley
The Swan Valley is Western Australia’s oldest wine region and home to a couple of all of Australia’s oldest wineries that go back as far as the 1830s. The Swan has gone through many iterations over such a long period of time and has enjoyed a sort of renaissance over the past couple decades. Though it sits in the long shadow of the formidable Margaret River, we find that the Swan is producing more and more worldclass wines these days to rival anyone. The region is know for Verdehlo and Chenin Blanc, but most recently, we have seen some glorious Shiraz, Grenache, Petit Verdot, and Durif coming from there as well. Further, some of the larger wineries in the region own land in the Great Southern and other regions, so you’ll find some wines in the Swan that aren’t from the Swan.
Less than 30 minutes outside Perth, if you are a wine enthusiast of any degree, you have no excuse not to visit.
