2024:
On the basis of wine quality, Sittella has to be one of the top 3 of the Swan Valley. It really is impressive that they can make such a diverse range so well. Sittella’s sparkling wines, in our opinion, are the best in the Swan Valley and potentially in WA full stop. On the other end of the spectrum, Sitella is also a bit of a Shiraz specialist. The 2023 Reserve Shiraz drinks exquisitely despite its flagrant youth – a sin at $30! As Sittella has grown ever more popular, the wine tasting experience has changed a bit, but the stunning wines have not. In a nutshell, you couldn’t say you know the Swan Valley if you haven’t visited Sittella.
2019:
Sitella may be our favourite stop in the Swan Valley. In terms of the things we are after, the place is firing on all cylinders. The cellar door is cute, the service is friendly and capable, and the wines are great. The cellar door is a beautiful villa-ish building set in and around gardens and vines, which you’ll frequently see staff carefully attending. The tasting room inside is more rustic than the fancy restaurant adjacent. (Regarding said restaurant, it is quite popular. We’d recommend visiting outside prime lunch hours unless you are coming here for lunch. Having said that, we found the cellar door staff to be amply capable of hospitably working with multiple groups on the go. Angela was exceptional; the sort of staff most cellar doors should dream to have).
Sittella processes around 150 tonnes of grapes a year from a few wine regions. Thus, the tasting is varied and engaging. And the wins are great. In our most recent visit, we just loved the Cuvee Rosé, the 2017 Tinta Rouge (a titillating table red that’s a no-brainer at $20), and the glorious 2017 Swan Valley Reserve Shiraz. Yes, you read that right, we liked their Swan Shiraz better than its brothers from the Margaret and Frankland river regions. If you want a revelation about what Swan Valley can achieve with Shiraz, try that bottle!
