Summary:

2024:

Faber Vineyard is one of the region’s most “serious” wineries, and we mean that in a good way! While the bungalow-style cellar door makes for a very relaxing environ to while away an afternoon, here, the wines do most the talking. Faber’s 2021 Cabernet Malbec is a mercurial temptress on the palate – rich, savoury, complex, and hard to pin down in a way that compels you to keep coming back and trying! The 2021 Reserve Shiraz is a bullet train of rich blue and black fruit flavour. And the Faber Petit Verdot, should they have any bottles available when you visit, well it may be Australia’s best stand-alone representation of this varietal.

2019:

Though quite small, or perhaps because they are small, Faber Vineyard is one of the best two or three winemakers in the Swan Valley.  Their interesting range which includes some varieties not commonly found in the Swan is captivating and the wines themselves range from great to incredible.  Perhaps their own website captures them best (and an unusually accurate self-representation from a business enterprise 🙂 – “Faber was established to grow regionally distinctive grapes and craft wines that are rich and flavoursome. Faber is Latin for a smith, a craftsman, an artisan; skilled, ingenious. We believe wine should be inspired – crafted with a sense of creating something distinctive and characterful.”  In short, Faber captures the best of what makes great small wineries so beautiful – true passion and commitment.

Faber’s cellar door, almost like an old hacienda farmhouse is cute and a wonderful place to sip wine on an autumn afternoon.  We have only ever received impeccable service there.  Faber’s staff is unusually attentive, alert, and articulate.  Cameron, who hosted us on our last visit, would be the stand out from that particular run of the Swan Valley.
