Western Australia

If Western Australia is synonymous with one varietal, it would undoubtedly be Cabernet Sauvignon.  Most believe WA produces Australia’s best Cabs (but we would encourage you not to overlook Coonawarra or Heathcote on your quest for the ultimate CS!)  After Cab Sav, Chardonnay and Sav Blanc-Semillon are most commonly associated with WA.  And while these are the primary wines you will find here, the region is increasingly succeeding with other varietals such as Petit Verdot and most gloriously, Malbec.

Western Australia’s most prominent region is the beautiful Magaret River, thought to produce WA’s peak Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.  Other regions include the Swan Valley (less than half an hour from Perth), Geographe (between Margaret River and Perth), Pemberton, and the Great Southern (including Frankland River).  We have tasted amazing wines coming out of the Great Southern in recent years and fully expect that region to establish a mighty reputation in the coming years.

WA is a must-visit state if you wish to fully understand AUS wine.  So what are you waiting for?
