Summary:

Without a doubt, Provenance is Geelong’s coolest winery/cellar door.  The place exudes modern, eerie, funky, hip.  Situated in the old Fyansford Paper Mill complex (which now, other than Provenance and a café, is a local artists commune) , Provenance really is an “industrial cathedral” with its art-ensconced hallway, high ceilings, high-stacked barrels, and giant tasting room.  Just being in the space is a worthy experience.  It reminds one in some way of places like Bird in Hand in the Adelaide Hills, or Samuel’s Gorge in McLaren Vale ….

But of course, this is not “Architecture Hunters”. We’re calling attention to the place because Provenance makes great wine.  Cleverly sourcing their fruits from a smattering of regions around Victoria, Provenance has crafted a wide variety of varietal expressions. It’s really a cool experience, and Provenance’s winemaker(s) is/are clearly adroit.  Each wine has a concentrated (and delicious) character of its own, reflecting the specific vineyard(s) and vintage whence it came.  We particularly enjoyed the punchy 2018 Western Districts Shiraz.
