Flynn’s Wines 2012 Verdelho – 95 Points

Straight off the nose, it is clear this is an aged wine of stature – marmalade and citrus zest, tempered by the gentle hand of slow oxidisation. On the palate, an instant miracle – brioche and marzipan, flecked with savoury olive tapenade, all carried on a broad wave of creek floor minerality and tempered to a harmonised integration that only aging, correct storage, and an A+ starting wine can deliver. In all, a broad, powerful, engaging and satisfying wine. Could you ask for more?

We can expect this of Verdelho? Perhaps it is (past) time we reconsider Heathcote‘s potential for white wines. Kudos to Flynn’s

Score: 95/100 (drinking in 2022)
While we are curious to see what further aging will do to this wine, it’s just too wonderful not to drink now.

* And on a related note, Flynn’s 2021 Verdelho (available at Heathcote Wine Hub) is also excellent (92 points). Broad, mouth-filling dry marzipan palate with lashes of mandarin rind, framed by hints of savoury. Every reason to believe this one will age towards 95 points as well.
