Update: Under it’s lovely new owners Toby and Kate, the Wine Hub has moved into an awesome old wooden church setting in Heathcote. Service is better than ever, and if you want to tour Heathcote in one stop, this remains the place to go!
*****
Heathcote Wine Hub is not a winery per se. Rather, it is a mini cellar door of cellar doors (and sometimes cafe) in the middle of Heathcote. The place has 15 or so wines from some of the region’s best wineries on tasting at any time. Don’t be shy. If you are short on time and really want to start to understand the region, try them all. Usually there is a nice array on tasting with some of Heathcote’s more experimental varietals (Heathcote, probably more than any other region in Victoria, seems always to be experimenting with varietals) as well as a range of Shirazes. In addition to what’s on tasting, they stock any number of wines from many of the region’s preeminent producers. This would be a good chance to try or buy wines from exceptional houses such as Ellis, Hennings, and Wild Duck Creek that do not have regularly open cellar doors. If you run through the full tasting here, you will understand why we believe Heathcote is a contender for the greatest wine region of Australia.
