Riverland
Located about 100 kilometres to the East of Barossa, Riverland is one of Australia’s largest grape-producing regions. In fact, Riverland currently produces over a quarter of Australia’s annual crush. There are a handful of wineries in the region, but grape growing is the predominant wine-related industry. The wineries that are in the region include some of the nation’s largest, such as Accolade Wines’ Berri Co-op, and many of these use Riverland as their base for “value” wine production. But don’t let that fact deter your enthusiasm. Of late, more and more experimental winemakers planting interesting varietals have moved into the region and some special wines are beginning to emerge. Set against the winding Murray River, Riverland is one of Australia’s more scenically interesting wine regions. Those who visit find great reward.
