Ellis Wines 2016 Premium Heathcote Shiraz – A Brush with Heaven

Deep dark amethyst in hue. On the nose, scents of toffee float atop a stew of brooding dark fruit. On the palate, seamlessly woven flavours, at first subtle but always building, of dark plums and mid-summer blackberry. Smooth, smooth, smooth. Extraordinary length in the soft toffee finish. Remarkable in being at once plump with fruit heft, yet crosses the palate with such feather grace and poise. Truly a soaring wine, and a study in elegance. Heathcote Shiraz is defined by its unique capture of power and restraint, but few indeed are they that dance as truly as this one. A wine of supreme integration that offers ever more reward and unfolding in each next sip. Small wonder James Halliday awarded this wine 97 points.

We hadn’t meant to write about Heathcote or Shiraz again so soon after our last post, but when we tried this wine, well, you can see why we had to. We believe you can get a $50 discount on any mixed case of 6 that includes this wine using the code “Heathcote” at checkout at: https://elliswines.com.au/

We have no affiliation with Ellis – more like a fascination. They have created a number of masterpieces over the years – notably their 2012 Cab Sav, 2015 Merlot, 2018 Viognier, and now this Shiraz. Enjoy 🙂
