Indigo Vineyards B-Block Shiraz – A Smooth Ride

To see this review live, check out: youtube.com/watch?v=ToUyGqrq-R8 (and why not subscribe to our channel while you’re there!) Next week, we’ll be back with some old school boots-on-ground Wine Hunting!!

Indigo Vineyard is one of Beechworth’s most iconic wineries. Most of the fruit Indigo grows actually goes into Brokenwood Wines. And Brokenwood, as many of you will know, is one of Australia’s most acclaimed wineries, so that should tell you something about the quality of these grapes! But Indigo also does a much smaller production of wines under its own label, and they are stellar. Shiraz, Cab Sav, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay – all yum yum.

As for Beechworth, Victoria, it is our favourite type of wine region. It’s got it all: quaint town, lots of small wineries making truly craft wines, the wonderful people behind those wineries who are actually happy to see you when you visit – really, we can’t recommend it enough. And one of the best things about Beechworth is that because of its moderate climate, you never really know what gems you may uncover here. We have found a wide variety of extraordinary wines including, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Chardonnay, Nebbiolo, Cab Sav and Merlot. Not too many regions in which you’re going to find good examples of all of those!

‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍Indigo B Block Shiraz 2019 tasting notes:

First of all, this wine has such a beautiful nose. There’s a warmth and freshness and sweetness to it that just makes me think of a summer day. And the flavour is much the same. It’s like a bright wave of smooth grape and blueberry flavours rolling indolently over the tongue. And if we had to pick one element of this wine that really defines it, it’s SMOOTH. This baby is smooth, smooth, smooth.‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍

‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍What food do you have this with? I think this juicy medium-bodied wine would be delightful with kangaroo salad with some pomegranate and goat’s cheese.‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍

‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍What friend do you this with? A group of your best mates. This is a versatile all-round wine meant to be shared with a group.‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍

‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍Now, when you do visit Beechworth, there a number of wineries you really need to check out:‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍

‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍The Ninth Mile produces one of the most striking Pinot Noirs you’ll ever taste‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍.

Virago Beechworth Nebbiolo is a Nebbiolo specialist, and boy does that focus pay. Their 2015 is just so beautiful – one of the best we’ve had in AUS.

Serengale crafts such wonderful Chardonnay – probably the variety Beechworth is best known for, so you have to check them out!

Weathercraft Wines and Willem Kurt Wines have produced some of the better all-around Shirazes that we’ve tried – they really showcase the balance a region like Beechworth can bring to a wine.‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍

‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍And finally, Piano Piano’s Merlot is a must try. (Also the winemaker is wonderful for a long wine chat!)

‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍And hopefully you can see from that list, the breadth of quality wine that Beechworth can produce. You really should visit. You will love it. Explore Beechworth! It’s #WhyWeLoveWine!‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍
