Seville Hill Wines 2012 No8 Shiraz – Magic

(To see this tasting & review live, check out our YouTube Channel here: youtube.com/watch?v=mo8JQRyZ0hc)

A remarkable wine and a pinnacle achievement for Seville Hill. Although it first appears a little lighter than a typical Seville wine, that little bit of restraint really allows the wine’s playful flavour notes like raspberry, vanilla, mocha & more to take first chair. This wine would be beyond epic with a red velvet cake. Easily one of the best Yarra Shirazes we have had.

‍‍‍‍Seville Hill is one of the top 3 or 4 wineries in the Yarra Valley. Seville is a stylistic winery, producing wines that can be characterised by adjectives such as “plump”, “juicy”, and above all, “polished”. Ultimately satisfying wines to be sure!

The Yarra Valley is not a region we often associate with Shiraz, but as we’ve just shown, it can sometimes produce gems. A couple other regions less commonly associated with Shiraz are also worth your checking out.

In the Mornington Peninsula check out Chirping Bird  for Shiraz that is both refreshing but elegantly expressive. Paradigm Hill produces what may be Australia’s most singular cool climate Shiraz.

Coonawarra is the Cabernet Sauvignon capital of Australia, but boy can Bowen Estate and Rymill Coonawarra work magic with Shiraz….
‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍
Lastly, Rutherglen produce some of Australia’s best all-around Shiraz. It’s a real goldilocks situation for Australia’s favourite variety. Not too hot, definitely not cool climate, but just right. See John Gehrig Wines and Warrabilla Wines for some great examples.
