Taste Champagne 2019 – An Event that Defines “Incomparable”

There is just no way around it. Year in and year out, Taste Champagne is the grandest wine event to hit Melbourne! $140 winds up being the best value ticket you ever purchased when you consider it is your pass to connect with 75 of France’s noble Champagne houses and try the better part of 300 of their cuvees. You can’t buy that for any price anywhere else. Literally. Outside of France, it is the largest collection of Champagne houses under one roof in the entire world. In a word, it is incomparable. We highly encourage anyone even remotely interested in sparking wine (which is about how we would have classified ourselves before we discovered this event) to check out Taste Champagne next year. You won’t regret it. We will certainly be there!

Below are the bubbles we loved best this year (bearing in mind that we couldn’t try them all; there are just SO MANY there).  Want to be sure you never miss a WineHunters find?  Like us at facebook.com/winehuntersaus

Charles Heidsieck Champagne Brut Reserve NV – An amazing middle of the road Champers that ticks all the satisfaction boxes one looks for in sparkling.

Charles Heidsieck Champagne Millesime Brut 2005 – Reserved horsepower works overtime in the background of this gorgeous beast of a Champagne.

Champagne Pol Roger 2012 Blanc de Blancs – A bright, bright, bright alive in your mouth cuvee that will make you a believer in BdBs!

Moët & Chandon 2009 Grand Vintage Extra Brut – Spiky and bright in all the right way. Dances the palate from note to titillating note.

Champagne Jacquart 2012 Blanc de Blancs – An usual combination of chalkiness and honeysuckle really work in this engaging cuvee.

Heidsieck & Co. Monopole Champagne 2009 Gold Top – The Gold Top always sets a Champagne standard, and this beauty is no exception.

Champagne Devaux SG Grande Reserve NV – A brilliant start to a glorious Champagne tasting journey.

Champagne Bollinger NV – A super clean nose yields surprisingly to a cuvee of power and yeasty depth.

Champagne Bollinger La Grande Anee 2008 – Heaven achieved!

Champagne Ayala Brut Majeur NV – A beautiful Champagne, reserved but with just enough going on that anyone and everyone would be pleased.

Champagne Philippe Fourrier Cuvee Prestige – If drinking a wine could feel like falling into a silk bed, this is it!

Vve Fourny & Fils Monts de Vertus 2011 Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru Brut – A rich briochey Champagne that really makes a statement!

Champagne Marc Hebrart Premier Cru – Somehow elegant but bursting with a wonderful flavour all the same!

Champagne Taittinger 2009 Brut Millesime – Powerful and rich with flavours including apple and hints of nuts and brown sugar.

Champagne Billecart-Salmon Brut Rose – Our favourite Rose at the show. Need we say more?
