Summary:

Yarra Yerring is perhaps the Yarra Valley’s most esteemed winery.  Very serious business here.  Whilst the wines are a little drier, perhaps more subtle than our preferred style, it is clear upon tasting why they are critically acclaimed.  The awards have been plentiful, and with good reason.  YY retains winemaking discipline that most others have forsaken long ago for commercial gain.  For example, we were lucky enough to attend YY’s 2015 vintage release …. in 2017!  While that extra 13 or 14 months does magic for the wines, you won’t see many (if any) other places holding before release anymore.

If anything, the wine-tasting at cellar door can veer too serious.  Don’t laugh too much or speak too loudly or you may get that librarian stare lol.  On the other hand, if you ever get the chance to attend one of their release events, do miss it!  Such opulent, lavish affairs with winemaker Sarah Crowe herself on pouring duty.
