Alongside Seville Hill, Pimpernel is our other favourite stop for consistently amazing wines. Mark, Damien, Fiona and the crew achieve what so few can, a full range of wines, red and white, in which each one is somehow more epic than the last. While Pimpernel is best known for their staggering Pinot Noirs (in our estimation, the best in the Yarra Valley), they also produce a cracking Shiraz, Chardonnay & Viognier. On the wine alone, this is one of the Yarra’s top three producers, year in and year out.
A relatively small family affair, Pimpernel is lethally serious about their winemaking craft. Dry land cultivation, hand pruning, careful yield management, hand bottling … the fruit of these painstaking labours shows up in every bottle. A true gem of the Yarra. Wine treasure realised.
