Summary:

Though situated on the far end (coming from Melbourne) from the region that is broadly considered the Yarra Valley, Boat O’Craigo is not to be missed. With 50 acres under vine (across two sites), BOC is definitely a boutique winery, but big enough to have the right vines in the right place and the right expertise to produce the good stuff. And though right off the highway, the cellar door is also set right against stunning rolling vineyards, with mountains in the background. On a cloudy day, you could not find a more moody and atmospheric setting. A great place to ponder the meaning of life!

We would class Boat O’Craigo as specialists in “deep, low floor subdued wines.” Placid and smooth on the surface, these wines have plenty going on beneath. (Rob Dolan is the winemaker, and pretty much anything he touches turns to gold.) Such a style makes for interesting Shiraz as well as Pinot Noir  and some mesmerising whites in addition.  Definitely worth a stop on your next trip to the Yarra. And if you’re lucky, you’ll get the lovely and engaging Mia doing your tasting.
