Scientists always hole up in old sheds, and such seems the case at John Gehrig. Cutting edge wines and some of the region’s best innovations are to be found here. From our first visit, we recommended the 2016 Gamay (a brilliantly deep table wine), the 2015 Snart’s Block Shiraz (absolutely delicious and supremely balanced Shiraz right out of the gates), and 2016 Durif (boysenberry stew delish). More recently, we can’t get enough of their Elizabeth’s Block Bordeaux Blend.
Like so much of Rutherglen, John Gehrig’s cellar door is more functional than glamorous, but the people are genuinely hospitable and the experience is wonderful.
