Let’s just say it right up front – Pondalowie is using a “secret weapon”.  Yes, Pondalowie is 45 minutes SW of Geelong, but the wines it produces come from its vineyards in the much warmer Bendigo Wine Region.  (And to really throw a spanner in the works, the name “Pondalowie” is taken from a Bay in SA 😊 With that caveat out of the way, put simply, Pondalowie produces stunning wines.  Yes they are bold, but they are underpinned by beautiful fruit expression and smoothly polished.  We give very high marks to their lightly spiced Tempranillo, their quintessentially (and beautifully) Heathcote-styled Shiraz, and their exquisite block-buster Cab Sav.  This ain’t your grandma’s Geelong wine!!!

It bears noting that Pondalowie has recently acquired land near Geelong (where its cellar door is currently) and planted Pinot Noir.  We can’t wait to see what the future holds, but until then, we’re more than contented with Pondalowie at present.
