Summary:
It always gives us great anxiety to make such a statement, and so we seldom do, but we reckon on wine alone, Moorooduc is the best winery in the Mornington Peninsula. Year after year, they craft wines that range from notable to prizeworthily epic. The range is usually fairly small, most commonly Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, a Shiraz, and a few Pinot Noirs from different vineyard sites. Every one is special. The Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs are masterclass examples of what Australia’s best region for these varietals can achieve. The Pinot Gris and Shiraz, on the other hand, tend to be notably unique and demonstrate less common elements of these popular varietals’ characters. Mooroduc is an early pioneer of wild yeast fermentation and one of the very few who have clearly mastered and harnessed this winemaking style.
The cellar door is simple but warm, and the people working there are almost always hospitable, cheerful, and generous. It’s the kind of place where an ounce of interest is generally met with a pound of reward. We love it.
