Montalto has come a long way in recent years and currently crafts some of the Mornington’s best wine.  That’s a fairly big statement for such a special wine region with so many of Australia’s best winemakers.  Winemaker Simon Black has a true Midas touch for Chardonnay and is ace with Pinot Noir as well.  Montalto’s 2015 Chardonnay would be in the top five AUS Chardonnays we have ever had.

Montalto also boasts an absolutely stunning cellar door with a museum-worthy sculpture garden.  I suppose the sculpture garden could be considered a museum in its own right.  A wonderful place to lose yourself on a magical afternoon.

The drawback of such a delightful cellar door and wine offering is that the place is wildly popular, and the harried tasting experience veers heavily commercial.  If you plan to come with a group of more than four and haven’t booked a month in advance, we recommend you save yourself the time.  Still, with everything going for it.  Find a way to get yourself to Montalto.
