Lyons Will Estate is surely a slice of wine heaven. For starters, you have to appreciate any winery these days that retains the discipline to release vintages two years after bottling. That discipline almost always pays dividends for producers and drinkers of fine wines, and such is the case with Lyons Will’s Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The 2015 Chardy defined poise, retaining all the powerful Chardonnay flavour characters, but conveying them in a clean and crisp manner. Meanwhile, the Pinot Noir is a study in dark magic, forest fruit and refined oak winding their way along a mysterious yet beautiful taste journey.  And although they are disciplined, they’re not afraid to experiment.  Depending on the day, you may get to try some funky concoction or the other they’re working on …

And then there are proprietors Oliver and Renata. When you meet them, you can see straight away their passion and pride for their wines. Less common, though, they have managed to hold onto that genuine wonder about it all that makes them a treat to be around. Incredible wines, a cute wine shed, and a passionate husband and wife duo fastidiously running the place …  does not get much better than this. Must, must visit Lyons Will.
