Summary:

Curly Flat has truly cemented itself as the benchmark for Macedon, and indeed, one of Australia’s 10 best Pinot Noir producers overall.  It is an incredible story of a woman’s dogged determination to build a dream, and boy did it pay in spades.  There’s just no compare.

What makes Curly Flat so special? Discipline, discipline, relentless discipline and focus. We absolutely love when we find a winery such as Curly committed to only producing what it thinks it can do best, in this case Pinot Noir and Chardonnay (and just a dollop of Pinot Gris, which is extraordinary!). You won’t find much else at Curly Flat, and that’s a good thing! Of the Macedon Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays we have tried, Curly Flat has pretty much the best. If you love Pinot and/or Chardy, you simply cannot miss this stop. If you think you don’t like Pinot or Chardy, you simply cannot miss this stop 🙂 If a cellar door is measured by the average quality of its entire range, Curly Flat is the top of the pack.  Some of the best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in all of Australia.

The cellar door is a cute hacienda-style farm house building, and the tasting experience is as intimate as it gets.  If Jenny Kolkka (the owner) is about, see if you can do your tasting with her.  The woman is electric with inspiring grit, determination, and pride.

On our last visit, we absolutely loved the 2019 Pinot Gris with its delicious flavours of plump golden raisin (and this PG is uniquely posh, no oily texture or musk here!); the loonnngggg-finishing, clean, & delicious 2018 Chardonnay; and the seductive and enchanting 2016 Pinot Noir.  Long live Curly Flat!
