Summary:

2021 – Not much on the socials and mostly quite private, The Bridge Vineyard flies well under most radars.  And while we always find this surprising, given the stature of their wines, it is so much the better for visitors.  The Bridge Vineyard is never overrun by tourists, which means you’ll get to spend plenty of time with veteran winemaker, Lindsay Ross as you go through his formidable range of wines.  With a focus more on quality and less on the commercial aspects of the trade, the Bridge offers a suite of wines crafted at a level of winemaking you just don’t see much of any more (e.g., years (plural!) in oak, years in the bottle, hand picking, etc etc etc).  The focus on quality pays in spades with a range of wines that are powerful, imminently structured, and immediately satisfying – and all at better than reasonable prices.  The Bridge also offers some of the only Malbec to be found around Heathcote and one of the region’s punchies rosés.

2020 – 5kms north of Heathcote town, Lindsay Ross of The Bridge Vineyard is making some stunning wines. His Viognier and Shiraz/Malbec are real showstoppers! These wines are alive – explosive in flavour but oh so expressive of their varietals. Lindsay will tell you how carefully he chose his small parcel of vineyard, and clearly it paid off. The Bridge is producing some of Heathcote’s very best fruit! But as with so many Heathcote wineries, Lindsay himself is half of the treat of a visit here. Lindsay began his wine career in NZ in the 1970s (a right young lad he is). A career that would take him to Europe, to Australia to work with the then formidable Rothbury Estate, to the highly regarded Balgownie Estate, and finally to his own vineyard and winery at The Bridge. Clearly the man has vast experience that he is happy to share, but he’s also got a wicked humour and a deep generosity. Guaranteed you’ll leave here with a smile on your face. Such a wonderful way to close out a wonderful day.
