Summary:
Though tiny, Hennings regularly produces incredible Shiraz – some of Heathcote’s very best! And the cracker Shirazes it produces make for an engaging study in contrasts! Their 2016 Croquet Shiraz was made to be “drink now”, but don’t let that fool you. This gem was beautiful. Silky smooth with hints of berries and currant. What it lacked in bombast it made up in hyper-smoothness. This one drank like a $200 bottle from France. Meanwhile, their 2013 Lone Vine Shiraz (available in a tiny quantity as of this writing) is ultimate. Full bodied and very rich, but in that elegant Heathcote way. And what a rewarding finish this wine has! We’d give this one a 98. Their regular Hennings Shiraz sits beautifully between these two.
We’ve never had a Hennings drop that wasn’t great. If you see a bottle, give it a shot.
