Summary:

Where to start in our praise for Clyde Park?  We suppose it’s best summed as “we absolutely love the place”.  It is easily one of the top three wineries in all of the sub-regions around Geelong

Clyde Park really ticks all the boxes.  For one, the cellar door, with its sweeping vistas of vine-covered ravines is stunning.  You’re filled with a sense of wonder & awe as you approach the place, and inside the building, the cellar door continues to impress with its moody lighting and clean, symmetric bottle arrangements.  And if you fancy a bite to eat, the deck captures the best of the outside and the inside environments.

And then there is the tasting experience, which is set apart particularly by two specific features.  1) The service.  In the COVID-era, service has really fallen off at wineries all over Victoria, but not so at Clyde Park.  In our most recent visit (admittedly early in the day, which probably makes things easier), we were greeted by an actual trained wine professional, Daniel, who took us through an engaged and informative tasting.  2) The range.  Clyde Park is really making the most of its 40 or so acres and doing what more wineries should – crafting a nuanced range with fewer varietals, not more.  Clyde Park offers only 5 varietals but has turned this into over 10 wines by presenting a variety of single block Pinot Noirs, Shiraz, and Chardonnays.   It’s such a cool experience to see what a difference a small distance between parcels can make in the way a wine turns out in the end.

And finally, of course, we wouldn’t be bother writing all of this were the wines not so SUBLIME.  On wines alone, we recommend Clyde Park is definitely one of the top three wineries among all the many wineries dotting Geelong’s sub-regions.  Their 2017 E Block Shiraz is an absolute master class in the pinnacles a cool climate/vintage Shiraz can achieve.  Their 2018 B Block Pinot Noir, on the other hand, is a show-stopper, nearly blurring the lines with elegant Syrah expectations.  We highlight these two because they illustrate the breadth of quality Clyde Park can produce, but trust us, there are so many wonderful wines in between to be tried when you visit.  Pay up for the full tasting – it will be one of the best you’ve ever had.
