Someone characterized Blakes Estate as “a long way to go for good wine”, but we reckon it’s well worth it – particularly if you are travelling the Great Ocean Road or making a day of visiting wineries to the South-West of Geelong.  Blakes’ four acres are dedicated exclusively to Pinot Noir, and if we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a million times: focus really pays when it comes to wine.  Blakes’ savoury, extremely characterful 2018 Reserve Pinot Noir is one of the most notable we have found around Geelong, which is doubly notable considering PN is Geelong’s signature wine.  The tiny cellar door is cute, and the service is great.  Be sure to call in.
