Puddleduck’s is an adorable affair in every sense of the word. The story itself is heartwarming. High school drop-out (Darren Brown) finds his passion working among vines and wines. During his employment at a prominent Hobart winery, he meets his wife-to-be. Eventually, while working at another winery, they buy land, and Puddleduck is born. 20 years later, they run a cute and bustling cellar door, seemingly floating at the edge of a pond. (Although from the giant (and we do mean giant!) wicker duck’s perspective from the other end of the pond, it may well look more like a puddle 🙂 Adorable all around, and maybe that’s why the place is always so busy. Or maybe it’s the fantastic Tasmanian wines that Dareen is making. On our most recent visit, we loved his deep and mysterious sparkling wine as well as the complex Puddleduck Pinot Noir. And his Fume Blanc is refreshingly different – just what the Hobart wine scene needs. In all, you can’t help but feel good after a visit to Puddleduck.
