A wine geek’s dream made good, Pooley (three generations of same family involvement in) exudes passion for the winemaking craft. And it is a passion clearly backed by ample knowledge. As soon as you taste the first drop or engage the knowledgeable staff, their seriousness about wine is clear. Theirs are master-crafted wines. With first plantings in 1985 (and more recent plantings in 2003), at 16 hectares, Pooley remains a family affair. In previous visits, we loved the 2016 Pinot Noir, the zesty, perfectly balanced 2016 Gewurtztraminer, the 2020 Gewurtz (hibiscus tea and a myriad of floral notes!), and the picture perfect 2019 Jack Denis Pooley Pinot Noir. Pooley is also regarded as one of the region’s best Riesling producers.
