Frogmore Creek, one of the true godfathers of the Coal River Valley, offers a very well-polished cellar door, gorgeous views, a stunning restaurant, cool art gallery upstairs, and impeccable and friendly service. The tasting list is/was long, and it’s the kind of place where if you show genuine interest, your tasting may go off the list and be longer still! (Although in our most recent “Covid normal” visit, the tasting was a greatly truncated affair.) A wine lover’s dream for sure. In our first visit, we loved the 2011 Cuvee, 2017 Pinot Grigio, and above all the 2015 Single Block Shiraz. Very unusual to find such purity and clarity in taste profile. In general, Coal River produces some special Shiraz, and this was one superb example thereof.
