Summary:
A visit to Hentley Farm Wines is a very special experience. Overlooking gentle rolling slopes of vineyards (which look simply magical on an autumn eve), the cellar door itself is built into a beautifully restored 1840s homestead. Leather chairs, marble table tops, a cast iron stove, perfect lighting casting suggestive shadows … all of these things will leave you feeling like you are a baron in the golden era when pioneer winemakers were putting Australia on the map.
Hentley is quite serious about their wines. While the winemaker’s style can feel a little flat at times to us (and thus the corresponding price too high), there is no question the place have the ability to create wine gems. Most recently, we have been fetched by their Grenache and Sparkling Shiraz. They make some epic still Shiraz, but you’ll pay very dearly to get it.
