A bit unusual for the Barossa, Hewitson is the home of softer wines. These wines are perfumed and soft down the line. But don’t mistake that for wines without character! That assessment could not be more wrong (the soft and pleasant Miss Harry 2015 GSM would have blown you away with its impeccably integrated complexity). What Hewitson has achieved with its range is nothing short of remarkable. 

In addition to stunning wines, Hewitson boasts a beautiful cellar door.  It’s a small cellar door, but it is sleek and smartly appointed. Their restoration of the original smokehouse has yielded a space that perfectly balances historic charm and modern design, rendering the feel of being in an open French bungalow. But the gem of Hewitson is their gorgeous deck. Like the cellar door, the deck is smart and sleek. Trees to one side cast the perfect amount of shade (no pun intended :-)) while 30 meters below, row upon row of vineyard unfolds before you. If you are at all able, do your tasting out here. Because Hewitson is a smaller cellar door and the staff is excellent, you can expect VIP service.  While you are here, enjoy a bite from their locally sourced menu, or better yet, prearrange one of their charming picnic baskets.
