Summary:

Tumblong Hills has made us believers in the potential of the Gundagai wine region.  We have tried three (well, really four, but two different vintages of one varietal) wines from here, and although incredibly distinct from one another, each was exceptional.  Both the 2016 and 2018 Sangioveses were studies in elegance with a bright fruit clarity to the wines, all polished and smooth.  It somehow felt like drinking diamonds.  TH’s 2013 J Block Syrah, on the other hand, was a very Rhone-style affair – savoury and sinewy and delicious with game.  The J Block Cabernet Sauvignon, by contrast, was a pleasantly dizzying cornucopia of attractive fruit flavours set against an enchanting fog of fine tannins.  Unusual to find three very different wine varietals so unique and delicious from a single region, let alone one winery …

If you can’t tell, we’re fairly smitten with Tumblong Hills.  Give them a try.  You won’t regret it!
